Key Features
The Ortofon 2M Mono is built for playing vintage or rare mono microgroove records on modern hi-fi systems. Its strapped output sends the same signal to both channels, so there's no need for a dedicated mono phono stage. Although it sits outside the usual 2M upgrade path, it mounts like any other cartridge and works with most headshells and tonearms, making setup straightforward even for niche collections.
Inside, Ortofon's dedicated mono engine uses split pole pins and silver-plated copper wire, working with an R18 m Nude Spherical stylus to reproduce the mono signal accurately and reduce surface noise. The rigid Hopelex body helps keep distortion low, delivering a more focused and faithful sound from your mono vinyl collection. It also shares the same body design as the Ortofon 2M 78, allowing you to switch between mono and 78 RPM styli without replacing the whole cartridge.

"The 2M Mono felt quite direct, with a solidity to the heavier struck notes that reflected their impact. Softer sounds were floated towards me, leaving me impressed with this cartridge's ability to swing from soft to loud and back again without fuss."
Ortofon's 2M Mono offers users of older, rare vinyl a higher-quality playback medium than had previously been available. Re-discover your greatest and oldest recordings and bring them back to life with the excellent and accurate playback of the Ortofon 2M Mono cartridge.
The 2M Mono features an improved Mono engine, which provides a high level of sonic accuracy. The meticulously cut R 18µm Nude Spherical stylus is also an optimal solution for playing mono microgroove vinyl records. Reopen a whole world of Mono recordings with 2M. Ortofon's 2M Mono uses a strapped output to deliver the same output signal from both sets of pole pins. This effectively eliminates the need for mono-specific equipment, making it possible to enjoy true mono reproduction on any stereo playback system.
Ortofon have optimised the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, weight and size to fit the most common turntables on the market today. 2M Series provides excellent compatibility in an assortment of playback systems and with a wide variety of phono preamps.
While it's still part of the acclaimed 2M series, the Ortofon 2M Mono is a specialised cartridge made for mono microgroove records, offering a cleaner signal than stereo cartridges can provide. It uses a dedicated engine and stylus designed specifically for mono playback, reducing surface noise and phase issues. For original mono pressings or early recordings in jazz, folk, or classical, it delivers a truer, more accurate sound than typical stereo cartridges can provide.
