Product Ref: 199264
Give these Wharfedales a sturdy pair of stands and use them relatively close to a rear wall, and you’ll get a terrific sound. There’s a sense of scale and authority that belies the speaker’s compact dimensions and we’re even more impressed with the terrifically articulate and beautifully projected midrange. Put it all together and you have a pair of budget boxes that truly satisfy."
Wharfedale's pedigree in building fine loudspeakers in cabinets that redefine expectations has never been more vivid in the petite Wharfedale Diamond 121 bookshelf speaker. Throw in a new, redesigned carcass, Kevlar® bass drivers and bristling with top marks from What Hi-Fi then this Diamond is a speaker which shines above anything else.
It has long been the case with small budget speakers that portability and flexibility come with a slight compromise on audio performance. But with the stellar-quality materials used in making the Diamond 121 bookshelf speaker, the loss is minimal with an openness of sound that other small bookshelf loudspeakers fall way short on.
Wharefdale took the impressive Diamond 10 series and deconstructed it to create this 11th generation of speaker. In went woven Kevlar® bass drivers, ribbed for extra strength giving you much more consistency and precision in audio reproduction. The Diamond 121 possesses a much wider soundstage giving individual instruments their own space to perform.
To really push the boundaries of the limitations that smaller speakers are inherent of, Wharefdale had a total rethink regarding bass-porting. The Diamond 121 features a brand new style of bass reflex porting. When normally positioned on the rear or front of the speaker the Diamond 121 instead ports the bass, well, down at the base! An integral plinth 'lifts' the speaker meaning the speaker is both easier to position in a room with no walls to take into account, and bass output is made more efficient. It's a ground breaking redesign which breathes new life into an old concept.
The Wharfedale Diamond 121 Bookshelf Speakers are available in four finishes: Blackwood, Walnut Pearl, Rosewood Quilt and Cinnamon Cherry.
