"The PM8005 amp is great for low volume listening, the dynamics, the detail is all there in spades. Turn up the volume and you'll find yourself grinning like a Cheshire cat... the sound is so amazingly crisp with no harshness whatsoever. Go listen for yourself and be amazed!"
"the most revealing and most pleasurable aspects of this review come from the many hours I spent just listening to the PM8005 and SA8005, as opposed to swapping components and obsessing about fine differences. As should be clear by now, I really liked what I heard. A thoroughly up-to-date route to serious two-channel sound that won't break the bank."
Sometimes, the true music fan just needs to enjoy music in the best form possible and the Marantz PM8005 lets you do that but provides enough flexible operation to be more than 'just an amp'. The natural successor to Marantz's excellent Pearl Lite model, the PM8005 offers the same silky-smooth performance but with a few extra features to aid flexibility.
A super-chunky power supply can provide the muscle needed both to drive demanding speaker pairs and also provides large amounts of power rapidly to deliver engaging short-term audio peaks. The large transformer has been redesigned by the Marantz research team to optimise bandwidth power giving you a huge energy reserve to deliver the impeccable musical results you demand from top-level Hi-Fi kit.
The bottom plate of the PM8005 has been thickened with an extra layer to help eliminate vibration and everything from the plush rear cable binding posts and smooth knob rotation reflects the high level of quality. A 'Source Direct' Mode is provided to up the audio purity a notch as the controls are bypassed for absolute maximum enjoyment, particularly good for turntable users. The PM8005 also comes with Phono MM input for the best direct connection to moving magnet turntables and removing the requirement for a phono stage.
The Marantz PM8005 comes in two finishes; classic black or silver.
Marantz developed its own discrete circuit boards to replace standard IC's. These HDAM's consists of discrete surface mount components with short mirror image L/R signal paths. Those devices are doing exactly the same thing as the Op-Amps, but outperform the regular IC Op-amps dramatically in terms of the Slew Rate and reduced noise level, resulting in a much more dynamic, accurate and detailed sound. Over the years Marantz developed different types of the HDAM to improve quality and to fit to the special requirements of a product category like CD or amplifier
Current Feedback amplification is a well known Marantz original circuit technology. The Current Feedback amplifier technology fits perfectly with the high requirements set for Super Audio software providing wide-bandwidth, high-speed reproduction. The impedance at the Current Feedback point is limited resulting in a very low phase shift. Marantz receivers and amplifiers equipped with Current Feedback can keep the phase compensation via Negative FeedBack (NFB) to a minimum, resulting in high through-rate, excellent transient response and superb sonic transparency for the full bandwidth. Unlike conventional Voltage Feedback amplification, the Current Feedback amplification makes the power amplifier in-sensitive to difficult loudspeaker loads.
Marantz products all carry the environmental logo. This logo proves the environmental way of thinking within Marantz. This does not stop with the low power consumption of all Marantz products in stand-by modus, but it also underlines the environmental way of working and producing within Marantz and the use of environmental approved components that do not contain hazardous chemical elements. As much as possible will be done to stress the environment as less as possibly can.
Special listening modes that provide the highest possible signal purity. They can be used for both analogue and digital sources, with two-channel or multi-channel inputs. When selected, the signal follows the most direct path not passing the tone and bass management circuitry or any DSP (digital signal processor) of AV Receiver or on players pitch control, digital output or the display will be switched off. The less processing and functionalities the closer the signal is to the original, the less it is distorted.
A Shottky diode is a special type of diode with a very low forward-voltage drop compared to normal diodes. This lower voltage drop translates into higher system efficiency. Shottky diodes have very fast signal handling, can easily stay higher temperatures and are sensitive very low voltages.
