The REL Planar PL-1 is designed for smaller and medium-sized rooms where traditional subwoofers can feel too large or difficult to place. Its ultra-thin cabinet works close to the wall, using boundary effect coupling to help produce deep, articulate bass while taking up very little floor space. This makes it a practical choice for living rooms, compact cinema systems, music setups, and spaces where clean integration matters.
Inside, the PL-1 uses dual 6.5-inch long-throw drivers, a 10-inch boundary-coupled passive radiator, and a 300W RMS Pure Class D amplifier. This combination gives it in-room bass extension down to 31Hz, adding useful depth to films, music, and games without overwhelming the room. Built-in AirShip Direct wireless, high-level input support, wall-mounting hardware, and the optional Planar Cart also make it easy to fit the PL-1 around the way the room is actually used.

The PL-1 brings REL’s Planar design into smaller rooms where space matters as much as sound. Its slim 144mm cabinet can be mounted on the wall or positioned close to it, helping you use areas that would otherwise go unused. This makes placement easier when sofas, cabinets, walkways, or décor limit conventional subwoofer options. As the more compact model below the PL-2, it offers a neat way to add low-frequency support without introducing a larger cabinet that visually disrupts a carefully planned layout.
Dual Drivers With Depth
REL uses two 6.5-inch long-throw drivers with a 10-inch passive radiator to produce bass that feels composed and room-filling. The active drivers help keep bass fast and controlled, which supports timing in music and impact in film soundtracks. The rear radiator works with the nearby wall to add depth and scale, rather than relying on cabinet size alone. This helps the PL-1 support stereo systems, compact cinema rooms, or centre-channel reinforcement with bass that feels connected to the system rather than separate from it.
Wireless Installation Made Easier
Built-in AirShip Direct wireless reduces the need for long cable runs, giving you more freedom when choosing the best position. The supplied wall-mounting template, brackets, right-angle power lead, and control panel cover help create a tidy on-wall installation with fewer visible distractions. For rooms where permanent mounting is not suitable, the optional Planar Cart allows close-to-wall placement instead. REL’s VIMAR system also helps manage vibration transfer through the mounting hardware, which supports cleaner bass and a more controlled result in everyday listening.
