"powerful, robust-sounding speakers that are a great fit for small spaces, and work particularly well with turntables."
"For those in the market for a deck costing less than half a grand, the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo is a must-listen."
"This is the best turntable available for less than £500 I’ve yet to test and the result is that the Debut Carbon Evo has to be seen as a Best Buy."
The Debut Carbon EVO makes changing playback speed simple and seamless. A built-in electronic speed switch sits neatly beneath the plinth, keeping the top surface minimal while letting you move between 33 and 45 RPM with ease. If you’re playing 78 RPM shellac records, an additional round belt is included—just add a compatible 78 cartridge. Whether you’re revisiting old favourites or spinning new releases, the EVO adapts to your collection without fuss, helping you enjoy smooth, stable rotation and accurate pitch across every type of vinyl you own.
The EVO’s MDF plinth is available in nine finishes, from hand-painted gloss colours to real wood veneers, letting you choose a style that suits your setup. Each chassis is supported by three height-adjustable metal feet with integrated TPE damping. This three-point layout improves stability and helps isolate the turntable from the surface below, reducing unwanted vibrations. Whether placed on a shelf, rack, or tabletop, the Carbon EVO remains steady—even on slightly uneven surfaces. The result is clearer playback and a visually refined piece of kit that feels right at home.
At the core of the EVO’s performance is an 8.6-inch one-piece carbon fibre tonearm, chosen for its rigidity and low resonance. Sapphire bearings keep movement smooth, while high-purity copper wiring and a shielded termination box protect signal integrity. It arrives pre-fitted with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, known for its warm, dynamic sound and precise tracking. Together with a semi-balanced Connect-it E RCA cable and gold-plated outputs, the EVO delivers clear, confident audio straight out of the box—designed to bring you closer to the music with every listen.
The MR1 MK3 is a great choice for everyday listening, offering the flexibility to suit a wide range of setups. Whether wireless or wired, you get high-resolution playback—Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX HD delivers detailed sound with low latency, while USB-C supports 24-bit/96kHz audio from laptops and tablets. The combined 3.5mm/optical input handles TVs, CD players and more, supporting digital signals up to 24-bit/192kHz. A built-in MM phono stage connects directly to your turntable, with variable gain for consistent volume.
Inside the MR1 MK3 are Ruark’s custom 20mm silk dome tweeters and NS+ 85mm mid-bass drivers with treated fibre cones, designed to deliver natural sound. A carefully tuned crossover ensures smooth integration across frequencies, helping vocals and instruments sound clear and lifelike. The cabinet is also ported, enhancing low-end performance, pointing downwards to make placement in tight spaces more forgiving. And if you want even more low-end impact, the rear subwoofer output lets you easily connect the tonally matched Ruark RS1.
Built with small spaces in mind, the MR1 MK3 delivers impressive full-range sound from a compact footprint. Its two-litre cabinet is carefully tuned for nearfield listening, providing clarity, balance and depth even at lower volumes. This makes it a strong choice for desks, shelves, or any smaller listening environment. Amplification comes from a 2 x 25W Class D design adapted from Ruark’s R410, delivering clean, dynamic output that suits close-up use. The result is an immersive experience that’s tailored for personal listening and compact hi-fi setups.
