Ortofon Test Record

The Ortofon Test Record is a unique tool designed to optimise your HiFi system, delivering high-quality sound in your home's natural audio environment. This record contains specially developed test signals to analyse cartridge performance and its interaction with your tonearm and turntable. Before testing, it's crucial to verify the functionality of your HiFi system, ensuring the correct speaker-amplifier connections and optimal speaker placement within the room. The Test Record is compatible with systems with in-built RIAA equalisation, recommending a moderate signal level for volume control.

This 15-track fine pressing includes frequency sweeps for checking frequency response, reference tones for testing channel output, and tracks to test tracking ability. Tracks 9-14 contain a 315 Hz signal, recorded at increasing pick amplitudes, helping you to adjust the anti-skating correction of the tonearm or increase vertical tracking force for optimal performance. The record also features a square waveform for monitoring cartridge output with an oscilloscope, ensuring correct cartridge connection. After the successful completion of these tests, your cartridge should be optimised, delivering a superior sound experience.

Remember to maintain your records and stylus by removing dust before and after each playback, and occasionally using a light spray of contact cleaner on the tonearm socket. Note that some phono equalisers may generate tone distortion, which isn't related to the cartridge.
