Follow the on-screen prompts, click Continue when required and select the supplied ARC microphone. This will take you to the Quick Measure screen.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"135efzh\" data-start=\"1803\" data-end=\"2099\">Set the subwoofer level: Click Start and adjust the volume, level or gain control on the back of your subwoofer until ARC shows approximately 75dB to 80dB near the bottom-right of the screen. Once you&#8217;ve reached the required level, click Stop and return to the main menu by selecting ARC Home.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"zeqnim\" data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2427\">Configure your speakers: Launch ARC, select your Anthem model and continue to the room configuration screen. Tell ARC which speakers are connected and how they&#8217;re positioned. If you&#8217;re using Dolby Atmos height speakers, select the Height 1 and Height 2 options that most closely match their physical locations in your room.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"z2qf43\" data-start=\"2429\" data-end=\"2736\">Set up Measurement A: If you&#8217;re planning to create multiple calibration profiles, give this measurement a recognisable name. Choose how many microphone positions you want ARC to measure \u2013 typically between six and ten \u2013 and select the speakers you want to include in the calibration. Then click Continue.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"160edv1\" data-start=\"2738\" data-end=\"2972\">Run the calibration: Make sure the ARC microphone is selected and mounted vertically on its tripod, with the microphone pointing towards the ceiling. Position it at ear height at the main listening position (MLP), then click Start. ARC will play test tones through the system and tell you when to move the microphone to the next measurement position. Follow the positions shown by the software and keep each measurement reasonably close to the main listening area, generally no more than around one metre from the main listening position.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"160edv1\" data-start=\"2738\" data-end=\"2972\">Upload and save the calibration: Once ARC has finished measuring and calculating the correction, you&#8217;ll be presented with the available options. Select Upload to Your Device to send the finished calibration to your Anthem amplifier or AV receiver. It&#8217;s also worth saving the ARC file to your computer so you can make adjustments or upload the calibration again later if required.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Audyssey_MultEQ_Audyssey_MultEQ_XT_and_Audyssey_MultEQ_XT32_for_Marantz_Denon\"><\/span>Audyssey MultEQ, Audyssey MultEQ XT, and Audyssey MultEQ XT32 for Marantz &amp; Denon<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"735\" data-end=\"1113\">Compared with ARC Genesis and Dirac, Audyssey can be particularly straightforward to set up because the process is handled through an on-screen interface, without requiring a computer. Connect your amplifier or AV receiver to your display via HDMI and Audyssey&#8217;s on-screen instructions will guide you through the calibration process. We&#8217;ve broken it down into eight steps below.<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"1115\" data-end=\"2328\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1ja4zg8\" data-start=\"1115\" data-end=\"1495\">Subwoofer: Start by setting the volume, level or gain control on your subwoofer to around 50%. Set its crossover control to LFE or its maximum setting, such as 120Hz. Once calibration is complete, check the subwoofer level set by your amplifier or AV receiver. If it&#8217;s beyond approximately \u00b110dB, adjust the physical gain control on the subwoofer and run the calibration again.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"108l21x\" data-start=\"1497\" data-end=\"1699\">Tripod: Assemble the supplied cardboard or paper microphone stand, if one is included. Alternatively, use a suitable tripod to keep the microphone stable and correctly positioned during measurements.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"gqflna\" data-start=\"1701\" data-end=\"1994\">Access Audyssey: During the initial setup, your amplifier or AV receiver should automatically take you through the calibration process. If you&#8217;re running Audyssey again later, open the Setup menu and navigate to the speaker calibration section. The exact menu names can vary between models.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"zk7oe4\" data-start=\"1996\" data-end=\"2328\">Follow the on-screen instructions: Audyssey will guide you through each stage, including when to connect the calibration microphone and where to position it. Depending on your model, you may also be asked to adjust the volume, level or gain control on your subwoofer until the system indicates that it&#8217;s within the correct range.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"2330\" data-end=\"2464\">Once the amplifier or AV receiver has confirmed the speaker configuration and levels, you&#8217;ll be able to begin the measurement process.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\" data-start=\"2466\" data-end=\"3974\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1kwqcm3\" data-start=\"2466\" data-end=\"2780\">Position the microphone: The first measurement should be taken at ear height at your main listening position (MLP). After this initial measurement, follow Audyssey&#8217;s instructions for each subsequent microphone position. Don&#8217;t place the microphone directly against the back of a sofa or other reflective surface.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"8msz3b\" data-start=\"2782\" data-end=\"3226\">Complete the measurements: Audyssey will play a series of test signals through each speaker and subwoofer to measure how they interact with your room. Although the exact number of available measurement positions depends on the version of MultEQ you&#8217;re using, it&#8217;s worth completing as many of the recommended positions as practical. This gives Audyssey more information about the listening area from which to calculate its correction filters.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"128ihln\" data-start=\"3228\" data-end=\"3703\">Choose your additional Audyssey features: Once calibration is complete, you can decide whether to use features such as Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. Dynamic EQ is designed to maintain the perceived balance of bass, surround effects and other frequencies when listening below the system&#8217;s reference level. Dynamic Volume, meanwhile, reduces large changes in volume, which can be useful when programmes, adverts or different pieces of content vary considerably in loudness.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"w5nx80\" data-start=\"3705\" data-end=\"3974\">Finish the setup: Once you&#8217;ve saved the calibration, remove and safely store the microphone. Your system is now ready for listening, although it&#8217;s worth spending some time with the calibrated settings before deciding whether you want to make any further adjustments.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"3976\" data-end=\"4500\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Note: Some compatible Denon and Marantz models also support an optional upgrade from Audyssey to Dirac Live. If you&#8217;re considering a model such as the <strong><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.av.com\/Home-Cinema\/Denon-AVR-X2900H-DAB-72-Channel-8K-AV-Receiver-Black\/849N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"4127\" data-end=\"4235\">Denon AVR-X2900H<\/a><\/strong>, Marantz Cinema 50 or <strong><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.av.com\/Home-Cinema\/Denon-AVC-X3900H-94-Channel-8K-AV-Amplifier-Black\/849T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"4258\" data-end=\"4363\">Denon AVC-X3900H<\/a><\/strong>, check the exact model specifications and available Dirac licences, as compatibility and supported features can differ between products.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"DIRAC\"><\/span>DIRAC<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"12\" data-end=\"416\">Available across brands such as Arcam, Denon, JBL and Marantz, to name just a few, Dirac Live offers several levels of room correction technology, including Dirac Live Room Correction, Dirac Live Bass Control and Dirac Live Active Room Treatment (ART). Here, we&#8217;re focusing specifically on Dirac Live Room Correction, with six steps covering the basic calibration process and what you&#8217;ll need beforehand.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"418\" data-end=\"704\">Before starting, make sure you&#8217;ve installed the latest version of Dirac Live on your computer and that your computer and compatible amplifier or AV receiver are connected to the same home network. Where required by your equipment, select an analogue source before beginning calibration.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li data-start=\"706\" data-end=\"997\">Connect your calibration microphone to the computer, open Dirac Live and log in. The software should detect your compatible amplifier or AV receiver, allowing you to select it.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"706\" data-end=\"997\">Choose the external calibration microphone you&#8217;ve connected rather than your computer&#8217;s built-in microphone.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"hxawc8\" data-start=\"1566\" data-end=\"1831\">Check the noise floor: With the room completely quiet, take note of the noise-floor reading shown by Dirac. Set the microphone gain to the appropriate level for your microphone and Dirac&#8217;s guidance; with some common USB measurement microphones, this may be 100%.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"11y9y2n\" data-start=\"1833\" data-end=\"2114\">Set the master output: Begin with the master output at a low level before playing any test signals. Gradually increase it to a safe calibration level rather than immediately setting it to your normal listening volume. Dirac&#8217;s meters will help you establish an appropriate level.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"9kkajq\" data-start=\"2116\" data-end=\"2537\">Find the quietest speaker: Play Dirac&#8217;s test signal through each speaker individually and compare their measured levels. The aim is to identify the quietest speaker or channel in the system and establish enough separation between the test signal and the room&#8217;s background noise for an accurate measurement. If a channel doesn&#8217;t produce a test signal, stop and check its configuration and connections before continuing.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"izjjrd\" data-start=\"2539\" data-end=\"2793\">Balance the channels: Use the individual channel controls to bring the other speakers reasonably close to the level of the quietest speaker while maintaining sufficient headroom. Once the levels are correctly set, proceed to the listening arrangement.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"2795\" data-end=\"3221\">For two-channel hi-fi systems where you&#8217;re primarily interested in optimising a single listening position, choose the most tightly focused arrangement offered by your version of Dirac. For home cinema systems with several listeners sitting relatively close together, choose an arrangement covering that seating area. A wider arrangement is more appropriate when you want to optimise performance across a larger listening area.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\" data-start=\"3223\" data-end=\"3568\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1aq2wj2\" data-start=\"3223\" data-end=\"3568\">Take your measurements: Place the microphone at ear height at the main listening position for the first measurement. Dirac will then guide you through additional positions around the listening area. Keep the microphone at the specified height and follow the positioning diagram rather than taking every measurement from exactly the same spot.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"3570\" data-end=\"3924\">Avoid placing the microphone unnecessarily close to a speaker, wall or other large reflective surface, as this can affect the measurement. If Dirac reports a problem, it&#8217;s better to investigate the microphone position, speaker level or system configuration and repeat the measurement rather than trying to compensate for an obviously problematic reading.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\" data-start=\"3926\" data-end=\"4318\">\n<li data-section-id=\"10nwa4w\" data-start=\"3926\" data-end=\"4318\">Design and export the filter: Once you&#8217;ve completed the measurements, proceed to Filter Design. Here, you&#8217;ll see the measured response of your system and Dirac&#8217;s proposed target curve. You can adjust the target curve to suit your preferences, but if you&#8217;re new to room correction, it&#8217;s worth starting with Dirac&#8217;s suggested correction and listening to it before making substantial changes. Finally, export the finished filter to an available slot on your amplifier or AV receiver. This stores the calibration so that Dirac Live Room Correction can be applied when you&#8217;re listening.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ez_Set_EQ_for_JBL\"><\/span>Ez Set EQ for JBL<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"24\" data-end=\"267\">JBL&#8217;s Ez Set EQ offers a more hands-on approach to room correction, combining traditional manual setup with app-based EQ. Before starting, download the Ez Set EQ app and find the specified low-frequency roll-off point, in Hz, for each speaker.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"269\" data-end=\"679\">You&#8217;ll need a tape measure to enter speaker distances manually and an SPL meter to balance each speaker to around 75dB at your main listening position (MLP). If you don&#8217;t own an SPL meter, smartphone apps are available for iOS and Android. They aren&#8217;t as accurate as dedicated meters, but they&#8217;re generally sufficient for basic setup. Make sure your chosen app supports C-weighting and a Slow response setting.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"681\" data-end=\"781\">You&#8217;ll also need to connect your JBL amplifier or AV receiver to your mobile device or home network.<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"783\" data-end=\"1623\">\n<li data-section-id=\"6c7yaw\" data-start=\"783\" data-end=\"975\">Prepare the subwoofer: Set its volume, level or gain to around 50% and its crossover to LFE or its maximum setting, such as 120Hz. You can adjust the gain again when setting speaker levels.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ua16e3\" data-start=\"977\" data-end=\"1327\">Connect your JBL: For Bluetooth, select the Bluetooth input on your JBL, activate pairing and select the unit from your mobile device&#8217;s Bluetooth settings. Alternatively, connect an Ethernet cable to your router. For compatible Wi-Fi models, attach the antennas where required and use the JBL Premium Audio app to connect the unit to your network.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ka77q1\" data-start=\"1329\" data-end=\"1623\">Configure the speakers: Press Menu and navigate to Setup &gt; Speaker Setup &gt; Speaker Types. If you&#8217;re using a subwoofer, set your speakers to Small so lower frequencies can be redirected to it. Without a subwoofer, suitable full-range speakers can be set to Large. Set unused channels to None.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"1625\" data-end=\"1833\">Next, select Speaker Distances and measure from the MLP to each speaker. If a speaker is above or below ear height, measure the direct diagonal distance. Enter each measurement into the corresponding channel.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\" data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"2094\">\n<li data-section-id=\"12zbnc9\" data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"2094\">Set speaker levels: Open Speaker Levels and set your SPL meter to C-weighting and Slow. Enable the Test Tone and, with the room quiet, measure each speaker from the MLP. The hiss you hear is normal. Adjust each channel until it measures approximately 75dB.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"2096\" data-end=\"2253\">If the subwoofer requires a large adjustment, change its physical gain control and measure again rather than relying on an extreme adjustment within the JBL.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\" data-start=\"2255\" data-end=\"2409\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1enzdxp\" data-start=\"2255\" data-end=\"2409\">Open Ez Set EQ: Navigate to Audio on your JBL and make sure Ez Set EQ is selected. Open the Ez Set EQ app and connect to your amplifier or AV receiver.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"2411\" data-end=\"2631\">Select the appropriate speakers. With a subwoofer, choose Front (Small); without one, suitable full-range front speakers can use Front (Large). Select the centre, surrounds and other speakers you&#8217;re using as appropriate.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\" data-start=\"2633\" data-end=\"2892\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1nuwkv8\" data-start=\"2633\" data-end=\"2892\">Run the frequency sweep: Follow the app&#8217;s measurement instructions carefully. Enter the specified roll-off frequency for each speaker and adjust the available Room EQ setting if required. Start the frequency sweep and allow it to reach 100% where possible.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"2894\" data-end=\"3019\">Once finished, select the calibration option and enable the correction. Repeat the process for the other applicable speakers.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\" data-start=\"3021\" data-end=\"3308\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1l7ke8o\" data-start=\"3021\" data-end=\"3308\" data-is-last-node=\"\">Test your system: Play a film you&#8217;re familiar with. If a speaker sounds too thin or bass-heavy, make a small Room EQ adjustment and recalibrate that channel. Once you&#8217;re happy with the results, check that Ez Set EQ remains enabled. Your JBL is then calibrated and ready for listening.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Multi-Channel_Acoustic_Calibration_system_MCACC_for_Pioneer\"><\/span>Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration system (MCACC) for Pioneer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"398\">Although MCACC is one of the longest-established room calibration systems, it&#8217;s also one of the easiest to use. All you&#8217;ll need is the supplied calibration microphone, your speakers correctly positioned and connected, and a quiet room in which to calibrate your Pioneer amplifier or AV receiver. If you own a tripod, we&#8217;d recommend using one to keep the microphone stable and at the correct height.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"400\" data-end=\"603\">There are several versions of MCACC, each offering different levels of correction and additional features depending on your Pioneer model. However, the basic calibration process remains largely the same.<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"605\" data-end=\"1844\">\n<li data-section-id=\"xlsvr6\" data-start=\"605\" data-end=\"1050\">Prepare the subwoofer: If you&#8217;re using a subwoofer, set its volume, level or gain control to around 50% and its crossover control to LFE or its maximum setting, such as 120Hz. Once calibration is complete, check the subwoofer level calculated by your Pioneer amplifier or AV receiver. If the adjustment is unusually high or low, such as beyond \u00b110dB, adjust the physical gain control on the subwoofer and repeat the calibration from step two.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"hcq1pi\" data-start=\"1052\" data-end=\"1405\">Connect the microphone: Plug the supplied calibration microphone into the MCACC microphone input on your Pioneer amplifier or AV receiver. On compatible models, this should automatically launch the MCACC setup process. Position the microphone at ear height at your main listening position (MLP), ideally using a tripod rather than holding it by hand.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1vurevo\" data-start=\"1407\" data-end=\"1844\">Run the calibration: Follow the on-screen instructions and allow MCACC to play its test tones through your system. The Pioneer will detect which speakers are connected and measure factors such as their levels, distances and acoustic characteristics. Depending on your model and version of MCACC, it may also determine whether individual speakers should be configured as Large or Small and apply additional EQ and acoustic corrections.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"2032\">Keep the room as quiet as possible throughout this process and avoid moving around while the test tones are playing, as additional noise can interfere with the microphone&#8217;s measurements.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\" data-start=\"2034\" data-end=\"2405\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\n<li data-section-id=\"3r0ppo\" data-start=\"2034\" data-end=\"2405\" data-is-last-node=\"\">Finish the setup: Once MCACC has completed its measurements and saved the resulting calibration, you&#8217;re done. It&#8217;s a particularly straightforward room correction system, with the Pioneer handling most of the work automatically. You can now test the results using music or a film you&#8217;re familiar with and hear how the calibration has changed the balance of your system.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Yamaha_Parametric_Room_Acoustics_Optimizer_YPAO_for_Yamaha\"><\/span>Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustics Optimizer (YPAO) for Yamaha<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"288\">Just like Pioneer and Denon, Yamaha have employed a simple calibration setup that requires very few steps to calibrate your speakers. If you&#8217;re using an AVENTAGE model, you may also have access to Yamaha&#8217;s 3D Angle Measurement setup, which is focused on the main listening position (MLP).<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"1861\" data-is-only-node=\"\" data-is-last-node=\"\">\n<li data-section-id=\"sk4xz5\" data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"937\">Subwoofer: Set the volume, level or gain dial to 50% and turn the Hz dial to either 120Hz or LFE. If you notice that your subwoofer level after calibration is beyond \u00b110dB, you&#8217;ll need to adjust the physical control from 50% until the resulting level falls within \u00b110dB. This means you&#8217;ll also need to repeat the calibration steps below.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"dawdwf\" data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"1251\">Plug the supplied YPAO microphone cable into the front of your Yamaha amplifier or AV receiver. The input should be clearly marked YPAO MIC. If you&#8217;re using HDMI to connect to your TV, it&#8217;s easier to follow the process using the on-screen GUI, although you can also use the amplifier or AV receiver&#8217;s display.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1vhsx97\" data-start=\"1253\" data-end=\"1378\">If you have a tripod to hand, we&#8217;d recommend using it for the microphone. Position the microphone at ear level at the MLP.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"14nrieu\" data-start=\"1380\" data-end=\"1713\">In a quiet environment, use your remote and press Enter to start Yamaha&#8217;s YPAO calibration process. You&#8217;ll be guided through every step, including when to move the microphone to another position. Although the exact number of available measurement positions depends on the version of MultEQ you're using, it's worth completing as many of the recommended positions as practical. This gives Audyssey more information about the listening area from which to calculate its correction filters.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"128ihln\" data-start=\"3228\" data-end=\"3703\">Choose your additional Audyssey features: Once calibration is complete, you can decide whether to use features such as Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. Dynamic EQ is designed to maintain the perceived balance of bass, surround effects and other frequencies when listening below the system's reference level. Dynamic Volume, meanwhile, reduces large changes in volume, which can be useful when programmes, adverts or different pieces of content vary considerably in loudness.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"w5nx80\" data-start=\"3705\" data-end=\"3974\">Finish the setup: Once you've saved the calibration, remove and safely store the microphone. Your system is now ready for listening, although it's worth spending some time with the calibrated settings before deciding whether you want to make any further adjustments.<\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"3976\" data-end=\"4500\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Note: Some compatible Denon and Marantz models also support an optional upgrade from Audyssey to Dirac Live. If you're considering a model such as the <strong><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.av.com\/Home-Cinema\/Denon-AVR-X2900H-DAB-72-Channel-8K-AV-Receiver-Black\/849N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"4127\" data-end=\"4235\">Denon AVR-X2900H<\/a><\/strong>, Marantz Cinema 50 or <strong><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.av.com\/Home-Cinema\/Denon-AVC-X3900H-94-Channel-8K-AV-Amplifier-Black\/849T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"4258\" data-end=\"4363\">Denon AVC-X3900H<\/a><\/strong>, check the exact model specifications and available Dirac licences, as compatibility and supported features can differ between products.<\/p><hr \/><h4>DIRAC<\/h4><p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"12\" data-end=\"416\">Available across brands such as Arcam, Denon, JBL and Marantz, to name just a few, Dirac Live offers several levels of room correction technology, including Dirac Live Room Correction, Dirac Live Bass Control and Dirac Live Active Room Treatment (ART). Here, we're focusing specifically on Dirac Live Room Correction, with six steps covering the basic calibration process and what you'll need beforehand.<\/p><p data-start=\"418\" data-end=\"704\">Before starting, make sure you've installed the latest version of Dirac Live on your computer and that your computer and compatible amplifier or AV receiver are connected to the same home network. Where required by your equipment, select an analogue source before beginning calibration.<\/p><ol><li data-start=\"706\" data-end=\"997\">Connect your calibration microphone to the computer, open Dirac Live and log in. The software should detect your compatible amplifier or AV receiver, allowing you to select it.<\/li><li data-start=\"706\" data-end=\"997\">Choose the external calibration microphone you've connected rather than your computer's built-in microphone.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"hxawc8\" data-start=\"1566\" data-end=\"1831\">Check the noise floor: With the room completely quiet, take note of the noise-floor reading shown by Dirac. Set the microphone gain to the appropriate level for your microphone and Dirac's guidance; with some common USB measurement microphones, this may be 100%.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"11y9y2n\" data-start=\"1833\" data-end=\"2114\">Set the master output: Begin with the master output at a low level before playing any test signals. Gradually increase it to a safe calibration level rather than immediately setting it to your normal listening volume. Dirac's meters will help you establish an appropriate level.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"9kkajq\" data-start=\"2116\" data-end=\"2537\">Find the quietest speaker: Play Dirac's test signal through each speaker individually and compare their measured levels. The aim is to identify the quietest speaker or channel in the system and establish enough separation between the test signal and the room's background noise for an accurate measurement. If a channel doesn't produce a test signal, stop and check its configuration and connections before continuing.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"izjjrd\" data-start=\"2539\" data-end=\"2793\">Balance the channels: Use the individual channel controls to bring the other speakers reasonably close to the level of the quietest speaker while maintaining sufficient headroom. Once the levels are correctly set, proceed to the listening arrangement.<\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"2795\" data-end=\"3221\">For two-channel hi-fi systems where you're primarily interested in optimising a single listening position, choose the most tightly focused arrangement offered by your version of Dirac. For home cinema systems with several listeners sitting relatively close together, choose an arrangement covering that seating area. A wider arrangement is more appropriate when you want to optimise performance across a larger listening area.<\/p><ol start=\"5\" data-start=\"3223\" data-end=\"3568\"><li data-section-id=\"1aq2wj2\" data-start=\"3223\" data-end=\"3568\">Take your measurements: Place the microphone at ear height at the main listening position for the first measurement. Dirac will then guide you through additional positions around the listening area. Keep the microphone at the specified height and follow the positioning diagram rather than taking every measurement from exactly the same spot.<\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"3570\" data-end=\"3924\">Avoid placing the microphone unnecessarily close to a speaker, wall or other large reflective surface, as this can affect the measurement. If Dirac reports a problem, it's better to investigate the microphone position, speaker level or system configuration and repeat the measurement rather than trying to compensate for an obviously problematic reading.<\/p><ol start=\"6\" data-start=\"3926\" data-end=\"4318\"><li data-section-id=\"10nwa4w\" data-start=\"3926\" data-end=\"4318\">Design and export the filter: Once you've completed the measurements, proceed to Filter Design. Here, you'll see the measured response of your system and Dirac's proposed target curve. You can adjust the target curve to suit your preferences, but if you're new to room correction, it's worth starting with Dirac's suggested correction and listening to it before making substantial changes. Finally, export the finished filter to an available slot on your amplifier or AV receiver. This stores the calibration so that Dirac Live Room Correction can be applied when you're listening.<\/li><\/ol><hr \/><h4>Ez Set EQ for JBL<\/h4><p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"24\" data-end=\"267\">JBL's Ez Set EQ offers a more hands-on approach to room correction, combining traditional manual setup with app-based EQ. Before starting, download the Ez Set EQ app and find the specified low-frequency roll-off point, in Hz, for each speaker.<\/p><p data-start=\"269\" data-end=\"679\">You'll need a tape measure to enter speaker distances manually and an SPL meter to balance each speaker to around 75dB at your main listening position (MLP). If you don't own an SPL meter, smartphone apps are available for iOS and Android. They aren't as accurate as dedicated meters, but they're generally sufficient for basic setup. Make sure your chosen app supports C-weighting and a Slow response setting.<\/p><p data-start=\"681\" data-end=\"781\">You'll also need to connect your JBL amplifier or AV receiver to your mobile device or home network.<\/p><ol data-start=\"783\" data-end=\"1623\"><li data-section-id=\"6c7yaw\" data-start=\"783\" data-end=\"975\">Prepare the subwoofer: Set its volume, level or gain to around 50% and its crossover to LFE or its maximum setting, such as 120Hz. You can adjust the gain again when setting speaker levels.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"ua16e3\" data-start=\"977\" data-end=\"1327\">Connect your JBL: For Bluetooth, select the Bluetooth input on your JBL, activate pairing and select the unit from your mobile device's Bluetooth settings. Alternatively, connect an Ethernet cable to your router. For compatible Wi-Fi models, attach the antennas where required and use the JBL Premium Audio app to connect the unit to your network.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"ka77q1\" data-start=\"1329\" data-end=\"1623\">Configure the speakers: Press Menu and navigate to Setup > Speaker Setup > Speaker Types. If you're using a subwoofer, set your speakers to Small so lower frequencies can be redirected to it. Without a subwoofer, suitable full-range speakers can be set to Large. Set unused channels to None.<\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"1625\" data-end=\"1833\">Next, select Speaker Distances and measure from the MLP to each speaker. If a speaker is above or below ear height, measure the direct diagonal distance. Enter each measurement into the corresponding channel.<\/p><ol start=\"4\" data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"2094\"><li data-section-id=\"12zbnc9\" data-start=\"1835\" data-end=\"2094\">Set speaker levels: Open Speaker Levels and set your SPL meter to C-weighting and Slow. Enable the Test Tone and, with the room quiet, measure each speaker from the MLP. The hiss you hear is normal. Adjust each channel until it measures approximately 75dB.<\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"2096\" data-end=\"2253\">If the subwoofer requires a large adjustment, change its physical gain control and measure again rather than relying on an extreme adjustment within the JBL.<\/p><ol start=\"5\" data-start=\"2255\" data-end=\"2409\"><li data-section-id=\"1enzdxp\" data-start=\"2255\" data-end=\"2409\">Open Ez Set EQ: Navigate to Audio on your JBL and make sure Ez Set EQ is selected. Open the Ez Set EQ app and connect to your amplifier or AV receiver.<\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"2411\" data-end=\"2631\">Select the appropriate speakers. With a subwoofer, choose Front (Small); without one, suitable full-range front speakers can use Front (Large). Select the centre, surrounds and other speakers you're using as appropriate.<\/p><ol start=\"6\" data-start=\"2633\" data-end=\"2892\"><li data-section-id=\"1nuwkv8\" data-start=\"2633\" data-end=\"2892\">Run the frequency sweep: Follow the app's measurement instructions carefully. Enter the specified roll-off frequency for each speaker and adjust the available Room EQ setting if required. Start the frequency sweep and allow it to reach 100% where possible.<\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"2894\" data-end=\"3019\">Once finished, select the calibration option and enable the correction. Repeat the process for the other applicable speakers.<\/p><ol start=\"7\" data-start=\"3021\" data-end=\"3308\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><li data-section-id=\"1l7ke8o\" data-start=\"3021\" data-end=\"3308\" data-is-last-node=\"\">Test your system: Play a film you're familiar with. If a speaker sounds too thin or bass-heavy, make a small Room EQ adjustment and recalibrate that channel. Once you're happy with the results, check that Ez Set EQ remains enabled. Your JBL is then calibrated and ready for listening.<\/li><\/ol><hr \/><h4>Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration system (MCACC) for Pioneer<\/h4><p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"398\">Although MCACC is one of the longest-established room calibration systems, it's also one of the easiest to use. All you'll need is the supplied calibration microphone, your speakers correctly positioned and connected, and a quiet room in which to calibrate your Pioneer amplifier or AV receiver. If you own a tripod, we'd recommend using one to keep the microphone stable and at the correct height.<\/p><p data-start=\"400\" data-end=\"603\">There are several versions of MCACC, each offering different levels of correction and additional features depending on your Pioneer model. However, the basic calibration process remains largely the same.<\/p><ol data-start=\"605\" data-end=\"1844\"><li data-section-id=\"xlsvr6\" data-start=\"605\" data-end=\"1050\">Prepare the subwoofer: If you're using a subwoofer, set its volume, level or gain control to around 50% and its crossover control to LFE or its maximum setting, such as 120Hz. Once calibration is complete, check the subwoofer level calculated by your Pioneer amplifier or AV receiver. If the adjustment is unusually high or low, such as beyond \u00b110dB, adjust the physical gain control on the subwoofer and repeat the calibration from step two.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"hcq1pi\" data-start=\"1052\" data-end=\"1405\">Connect the microphone: Plug the supplied calibration microphone into the MCACC microphone input on your Pioneer amplifier or AV receiver. On compatible models, this should automatically launch the MCACC setup process. Position the microphone at ear height at your main listening position (MLP), ideally using a tripod rather than holding it by hand.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1vurevo\" data-start=\"1407\" data-end=\"1844\">Run the calibration: Follow the on-screen instructions and allow MCACC to play its test tones through your system. The Pioneer will detect which speakers are connected and measure factors such as their levels, distances and acoustic characteristics. Depending on your model and version of MCACC, it may also determine whether individual speakers should be configured as Large or Small and apply additional EQ and acoustic corrections.<\/li><\/ol><p data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"2032\">Keep the room as quiet as possible throughout this process and avoid moving around while the test tones are playing, as additional noise can interfere with the microphone's measurements.<\/p><ol start=\"4\" data-start=\"2034\" data-end=\"2405\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><li data-section-id=\"3r0ppo\" data-start=\"2034\" data-end=\"2405\" data-is-last-node=\"\">Finish the setup: Once MCACC has completed its measurements and saved the resulting calibration, you're done. It's a particularly straightforward room correction system, with the Pioneer handling most of the work automatically. You can now test the results using music or a film you're familiar with and hear how the calibration has changed the balance of your system.<\/li><\/ol><hr \/><h4>Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustics Optimizer (YPAO) for Yamaha<\/h4><p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"288\">Just like Pioneer and Denon, Yamaha have employed a simple calibration setup that requires very few steps to calibrate your speakers. If you're using an AVENTAGE model, you may also have access to Yamaha's 3D Angle Measurement setup, which is focused on the main listening position (MLP).<\/p><ol data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"1861\" data-is-only-node=\"\" data-is-last-node=\"\"><li data-section-id=\"sk4xz5\" data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"937\">Subwoofer: Set the volume, level or gain dial to 50% and turn the Hz dial to either 120Hz or LFE. If you notice that your subwoofer level after calibration is beyond \u00b110dB, you'll need to adjust the physical control from 50% until the resulting level falls within \u00b110dB. This means you'll also need to repeat the calibration steps below.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"dawdwf\" data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"1251\">Plug the supplied YPAO microphone cable into the front of your Yamaha amplifier or AV receiver. The input should be clearly marked YPAO MIC. If you're using HDMI to connect to your TV, it's easier to follow the process using the on-screen GUI, although you can also use the amplifier or AV receiver's display.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1vhsx97\" data-start=\"1253\" data-end=\"1378\">If you have a tripod to hand, we'd recommend using it for the microphone. Position the microphone at ear level at the MLP.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"14nrieu\" data-start=\"1380\" data-end=\"1713\">In a quiet environment, use your remote and press Enter to start Yamaha's YPAO calibration process. You'll be guided through every step, including when to move the microphone to another position. If you have the option to use the 3D Angle Measurement system, return the microphone to the MLP and follow the on-screen instructions.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"h7hneg\" data-start=\"1715\" data-end=\"1783\">Once complete, save the calibration and exit the setup procedure.<\/li><li data-section-id=\"102giro\" data-start=\"1785\" data-end=\"1861\" data-is-last-node=\"\">Now play your favourite film to hear the results of the YPAO calibration.<\/li><\/ol><hr \/><h3>FAQs<\/h3><h4>How important is room correction?<\/h4><p>As room correction assists with timing, sound waves, and phasing issues in the room and from the speaker, it's hugely important if you want to hear audio correctly in your room.<\/p><hr \/><h4>What is the room correction curve?<\/h4><p>If you've ever wondered what people mean when they talk about a reference level or target curve, this is where room correction comes into play.
